About Us
Grow Smart Louisville is a local non-profit, volunteer organization working to promote smart growth in Metro Louisville. We work to educate citizens on the different phases of development: to advocate transparency throughout the planning and design process; and to facilitate communication between developers and citizens to create the most positive outcome for all parties involved.
History
The 494-bed Louisville Veterans Hospital (now the Robley Rex VA Medical Center) opened in 1952 on 59 acres of land outside the city limits at 800 Zorn Avenue to provide for the health care needs of Veterans in the Louisville area.
Today, services are available to more than 150,000 Veterans living within a 35 county region. In addition to the main facility, the VA operates eight Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) throughout the area. In 2006, the Secretary of Veterans Affairs announced the Louisville VAMC would receive a new hospital. In 2012, the VA announced the new site for the 110 bed medical center would be located on 34 acres of land at 4906 Brownsboro Road.
